Chapter 8: Emergency Response Procedure
Emergency response procedures are handled much in the same way as special work practices during maintenance activities that involve disturbance of ACM. Each fiber release episode should be reported to the asbestos program manager. Minor episodes (less than 3 square or linear feet) should follow the same work practices as for intended small disturbances ( #3 in Special Work Practices For Maintenance Activities ).
Major episodes are more serious and require immediate isolation of the contaminated area, and removal of the area from the air handling system in addition to the special work practices for intended large disturbances ( #4 in Special Work Practices For Maintenance Activities ).
Each fiber release episode should be properly documented whether in-house maintenance staff is used or an outside abatement contractor performs the work.
