Cost/Eligibility for Services
Students enrolled full-time and seeking a degree at the University of Mary Washington are eligible for short-term individual counseling and/or group therapy. There are no restrictions on the number of group therapy sessions a student can participate in.
All members of the UMW community, including part-time students and staff, can access group therapy, consultations, referrals, crisis intervention, and outreach educational programs.
All services offered at the counseling center are provided free of charge. We are unable to accept payment for individual counseling sessions. If a student requires a referral for off-campus psychological or psychiatric services, payment arrangements must be discussed between the student and the service provider. The counseling center staff conducts an annual survey of community mental health providers, which includes basic information on the insurance plans accepted by each clinician.
Please note that the counseling center cannot offer services during times when classes are not in session nor can we provide services to students not currently registered for classes. We also do not accept referrals for court-mandated counseling.
