UMW students have on-demand, free access to mental health services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, via TimelyCare, a telehealth service accessed via a web browser or app.

TimelyCare uses single sign-on so you’ll access it with your UMW NetID – just using umw.edu at the end (mail.umw.edu will not work). Please note that you’ll complete an information form on your first visit to the site. This form can be completed as soon as you join the UMW campus community.
UMW students have FREE, 24/7 access to virtual care services with TimelyCare — the virtual health and well-being platform from TimelyCare, designed for college students. Students do not need insurance to access TimelyCare services. Download the app here. As part of UMW’s partnership with TimelyCare, students have access to services in TimelyCare, including:
- TalkNow: 24/7, on-demand emotional support to talk about anything, including anxiety, relationships, depression, and school-related stressors.
- Scheduled Counseling: Choose the day, time, and mental health provider that best works for you. (12 visits per year)
- Health Coaching: Develop healthy lifestyle behaviors, including nutrition, sleep habits, time management, and mindfulness.
- Psychiatry: Appointments are available through referrals.
- Self-Care Content: Visit the “Explore” page within TimelyCare for guided self-care content, including yoga and meditation sessions, as well as group conversations with our providers on a variety of health and well-being topics.

Who can use TimelyCare?

How much does TimelyCare cost?
It’s free for currently enrolled UMW students. Students have 12 sessions with TimelyCare annually from August 1 to July 31. Additional sessions would incur a cost directly to the student. That cost is determined by TimelyCare.
If a student uses the TalkNow function, does it count as one of their 12 counseling sessions?
No, TalkNow does not count as a counseling session. Only Scheduled Counseling appointments count as one of the 12 sessions. TalkNow is unlimited!
What can I be treated for by TimelyCare?
TimelyCare’s providers can offer support for a wide range of common mental health concerns (such as depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, academic concerns, adjustment, grief, body image, eating concerns, trauma, identity development, etc.), and after talking to you, will decide on the best course of treatment.
What is not included in TimelyCare’s services?
TimelyCare is UMW’s mental health telehealth partner. Physical health concerns and questions should be referred to the Student Health Center.
TimelyCare also does not provide letters for emotional support animals (ESA).
What if I need a private space for an appointment or I prefer to meet in person?
The Talley Center for Counseling Services is still available for in-person needs. Reach out at (540) 654-1053 or visit at Lee Hall Room 106 and Tyler House.
What if faculty and staff need to refer a student?
Faculty and staff are often the first line of support for students who can benefit from care. If you are a UMW faculty or staff member and need additional support for students, call 833-4-TIMELY (press 2) any time, day or night.
To keep the conversation going with students, you can start with “It sounds like you’re having a really tough time. Did you know UMW now provides counseling services both in person and virtually? Talley Center provides in-person individual and group counseling, and TimelyCare is available 24/7. We could call their number together to get you support.”
Use this service when students shows academic signs of distress or physical and psychological signs of distress; refers to self-harm; discloses problems with family, peers, a significant other or a recent personal loss; isolates from peers, faculty or staff; or is identified by peers as potentially needing support.
