The Department of Campus Recreation strives to provide quality facilities and positive experiences to the Mary Washington and Fredericksburg communities. Our recreational spaces can be found in and around Goolrick Hall, located at the end of UMW’s campus walk. We hope that our members find ways to relieve stress, socialize, and improve their physical self through our programs and in our facilities. An active membership is required to utilize our facilities.
The following hours apply to all recreational spaces in Goolrick Hall and the Fitness Center.

How to check in to open rec swim hours
All patrons swimming in the pool are required to inform the front desk that they are there to swim and then obtain a “Pool Pass” to give to the lifeguard. This will help with tracking who is using our pool, and then we will also know exactly who to contact when the pool hours change unexpectedly. Thanks for your understanding as we implement this new procedure!
About Our Recreational Spaces
Founded in 1969, this building is home to two basketball courts, a pool, two dance studios, classrooms, and varsity athletics offices and training rooms.
The Fitness Center
This 19,000 square foot facility added onto Goolrick Hall in 2004 houses a cycle studio, strength equipment, over 40 cardio machines, an olympic lifting floor, multiple stations for squats, bench pressing, and pull ups, cable machines, dumbbells, barbells, open mat areas for stretching and core exercises, and more. TVs and music are provided for your entertainment and things such as weight lifting belts, resistance loops, and barbell pads are available to borrow from the front desk.
The Goolrick pool is 6 lanes and 179,000 gallons. It is used for varsity and club swim practices and meets, individual exercise classes, recreational swim for the UMW community, and Campus Recreation-led swim lessons.
Campus Rec Field
The CRF is located on Alvey Drive near the parking deck. This field is the home to many of our Eagle sport clubs and plays host to our outdoor intramural sports. The ATurf surface allows practices and competition to take place in most weather conditions and the Musco Advanced Lighting system enables play to continue into the evening and in overcast conditions.
Portable spectator bleachers, player benches, restrooms, and a storage building are all found at the CRF.
Beach Volleyball Court
The Beach Volleyball Court is located near the Campus Recreation Field (CRF) and is open for all UMW students to enjoy. Stop by sometime when the weather is nice to get your game on!
A valid membership and EagleONE ID is required to access our recreational spaces.
