Brandon Ravenel, Graduate Assistant for Sports & Outdoor Recreation

Kelly Shannon, Director of Campus Recreation

Phone: 540-654-1098

As Kelly’s undergraduate work was in exercise and health promotion, she tried to get as much job related experience as possible. While acquiring that experience, she quickly found that campus recreation was the most enjoyable and rewarding environment and decided to pursue a career in the field. Kelly is a Certified Exercise Physiologist; her undergraduate and graduate school at Virginia Tech both sparked her interest in this area of work and prepared her to take the exam. In Kelly’s words “achieving fitness & wellness is a lifelong work in progress. It is my goal to live as long and healthy a life as possible which means moving my body more than sitting still, eating as well as I am able to, ensuring I sleep enough and managing life’s stressors as they arise.” Activities she enjoys are talking and playing with her children and trying out the local restaurants, coffee shops and music. Kelly’s favorite dessert would feature any combination of chocolate and peanut butter or chocolate and coffee. An interesting fact about her is that she’s been skydiving twice, in two beautiful places, Airlie Beach, Australia and Kauai, Hawaii.

Her passion is group fitness and she strives to provide multiple avenues for students of all backgrounds to improve their overall wellness while at UMW. A fun fact about Brittanie is that she is a HUGE One Direction fan and won meet-and-greet with them in 2015 thanks to a radio contest!

Zamara Montalvo, Business Operations Manager

Phone: 540-654-1197

Zamara has a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Puerto Rico. Immediately out of college she worked for Honeywell Aerospace until she relocated to Fredericksburg, VA in 2011. Zamara joined the University of Mary Washington in 2015 and fell in love with the ambiance on campus.

She has always enjoyed nature and outdoor activities. She grew up going to the beach, kayaking, riding mountain bikes, and hiking with her family in Puerto Rico. So, when the opportunity to join Campus Recreation came along, she thought it was the perfect fit for her. Zamara became part of the Campus Rec team in May 2018.

Activities she enjoys are building puzzles, coloring books, and playing with her two cats, Tobi and Tonka.
