Transfer of Military Credit
UMW has adopted revised transfer credit policies that apply to the award of academic credit for military education, training, and experience for students who are active duty military, reservists, veterans, or members of the Virginia National Guard. These policies go into effect starting July 1, 2014.
The revised policy provides flexibility for students in regard to the award of credit for military education and training and will help to increase degree completion among this population. Students who have served in the armed forces, or who continue to serve while enrolled in a higher education program, are particularly reliant upon the flexible transfer of credits because many of those completing a degree do not do so at the institution at which they first enrolled.

NOTE: Virginia Code §23-7.4 1 defines a veteran as an individual who has served at least one day of service in the active military, naval or air service and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable.
