Pay It Forward Week May 20-24

payitforward_image1

#UMWPayItForward This week is Pay It Forward week! You may be asking yourself, what does it mean to Pay it Forward? The concept behind ‘pay it forward’ need not always involve large sums of money or great actions of charity. Remember that little, selfless acts go a long way to make the world a better place. YOU can get involved simply by passing on acts of kindness. We will be hosting a picnic table build with Habitat for Humanity on Tuesday at 2pm on campus walk, and tabling with Pay it Forward post cards on Tuesday and Wednesday from 11-2. Giant chalkboards will be up Thursday and Friday to share your reflections! Be sure to show us your experiences #UMWPayitForward During the week you may come across Pay it Forward punch cards, which list several ways to pass on acts of kindness to others. But do not limit yourself to our suggestions, be creative! Come up with your own ways to pay it forward to a friend, loved one, or stranger to share kindness across our community! Each punch … [Read more...]

COAR's programs and events are made possible with the time, effort and enthusiasm from all of our wonderful volunteers! This semester, we had the most successful Into the Streets yet, with 150 volunteers scattered all around the community. The event kicked off with a delicious breakfast from Paul's Bakery after which we were able to help 7 of our community's organizations! Two hours times 300 of our helping hands equals an incredibly successful day of giving back to our community! Pumpkin Palooza 2014 was also a great success this year! We had over 200 kids come to campus to participate in all our activities. All our games and crafts were made possible with the help of our 93 student volunteers. Every thirty minutes, we had Trick or Treating tours walk around campus to the different resident halls on campus. This was made possible with the help of ARH (Association of Residence Halls) who helped to recruit volunteers from our participating residence halls! … [Read more...]

Pay it Forward

Now a days, it's easy to convince ourselves that bigger is better. Everyone is on the prowl for the next big thing...the next big project that will save the world. Of course, dreaming big is NOT a bad thing! But sometimes it is important to take a step back and recognize all the little things that we can to make other peoples lives easier. Simple every day acts of kindness can turn someone's day from average to amazing! COAR is organizing our first ever Pay it Forward Project, to shine a light on these random acts of kindness! But that's okay, because sometimes the little things like smiling as you pass by a stranger, or giving your time to a friend, and even just working towards maintaining a positive attitude, make all the difference. We want to recognize all of the things Eagles do that normally are not recognized, and spread the "pay it forward" epidemic across … [Read more...]
