Talley Center for Counseling Services
The Talley Center for Counseling Services provides individual therapy, group therapy, psychiatric services, referral, and case management services for full-time undergraduate UMW students. Transitioning to college life after military service can be challenging. Counselors at the counseling center can provide confidential support as you make the transition to becoming a student at UMW. Licensed mental health clinicians are also available for consultation and crisis intervention.

Speaking and Writing Center
The Speaking and Writing Center (SWC) supports all speaking and writing projects for any class offered at UMW by providing free consultations to students at any stage of their academic careers who want to develop and improve their written and oral communication skills. The University of Mary Washington’s Speaking and Writing Center aims to enhance and support high-quality undergraduate and graduate education through engaging tutorials, class workshops, and community outreach. The SWC encourages lifelong learning by motivating students to apply their knowledge and broad-based educational experiences to their own projects, helping them develop habits that turn them into better writers, speakers, and scholars during and after their time at the University of Mary Washington.
This is a free pantry on campus that offers food, clothing, dorm supplies, toiletries, and anything from our community that can support our UMW community.
The GHRC is located on the 5th floor of Lee Hall. Take the elevator closest to Monroe Hall to floor “A” (for attic). The GHRC is open any time Lee Hall is open during the school year.
Student Activities and Engagement
The Office of Student Activities and Engagement (SAE) is the home to a myriad of student activities on campus. From working with our over 130 student organizations to collaborating with academic departments, we are here to assist the UMW community in proposing, developing, and executing meaningful programming for the entire campus. Please see our calendar for everything happening on campus, and feel free to reach out to us in our office, by email, or on our social media platforms. Student Health Center
The Student Health Center (SHC) is a weekday health clinic for UMW students. As the name implies, we serve undergraduate students, not faculty, staff, or the general public. The SHC focuses on the routine, acute healthcare needs of its student population and has a limited scope. It is not an emergency room and does not offer the full range of services provided by a family practice, such as long-term disease management or hospital care. The SHC is a nonprofit facility and does not have expensive (profitable) X-ray and lab services. The SHC does not participate in any insurance plans and therefore cannot process medication or specialist pre-authorizations.
