Meet your UMW Fit Fam!

 

Bill Brooks
Bill
took his first yoga class while in college and has found the practice to bring joy, vitality, and contentment to his life.  He received his yoga training (RYT  200) through the Integral Yoga Academy and has been teaching for several years.  Bill’s classes are informed by his philosophy that the body is designed to be used, not abused.  He guides his students to relate to their yoga practice with awareness and kindness.  Bill is also a certified meditation teacher  through the  Meditation Teacher Training Institute.  Bill joined the UMW Campus Recreation group exercise staff during the fall of 2012.


Brenna is a UMW student studying geography who teaches HIIT & Core, Core & More, and is certified to teach Zumba classes. She participated in the Group Fitness Instructor Prep Course in Fall 2018 and joined the Campus Rec group fitness staff in Spring 2019. Fun facts: Brenna is from Ridgefield, CT and this summer she’s doing research in Guatemala and teaching trapeze!

Brittanie N.
is a Dance Fitness, Cycle, and HIIT & Core instructor at UMW. She went to Virginia Tech for both her undergraduate and graduate degrees and now serves as the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation at UMW. Brittanie has a passion for providing a fun and memorable class experience and building relationships with her participants. If you’re taking one of her classes, you’re guaranteed a sweaty workout to great, upbeat music that will keep you pumped up the entire time!

Britteny B. is a UMW student from Ashburn, VA who took the group fitness instructor prep course in Fall 2019 and joined the Campus Rec group fitness staff in Spring 2020. She teaches HIIT & Core, and Cycle! When she was 3, she fell out of a chair and got stitches and when she was 6, she ran into the corner of a counter and got stitches above her eye.

Caleigh is a UMW student and Campus Recreation facility supervisor who took the group fitness instructor prep course in Fall 2019 and joined the Campus Rec group fitness staff in Spring 2020. Caleigh is an English major with a budiness administration minor. She teaches Pilates and HIIT Strength! Fun fact: Caleigh has been to 8 countries, but the Scottish Highlands were her favorite.


Carolyn is a UMW student from Springfield, VA studying English with a focus on Creative Writing and Elementary Education. Carolyn is certified to teach Barre fitness classes by American Barre Technique and leads both Barre and Core Barre classes at UMW. She participated in the Group Fitness Instructor Prep Course in Spring 2018 and joined the Campus Rec group fitness staff in Fall 2018. Carolyn wears many other hats in Campus Recreation, including serving as the Group Fitness Student Coordinator, a supervisor on the recreational facilities staff, and a member of the Women’s Club Soccer team. Fun fact: she has played soccer since she was 5 years old and is a captain on the club team!

Colleen
Colleen
is a 2008 (BS) and 2012 (MBA) UMW Alum and is excited to share PITAIYO, PITAIYO Circuit, and Cycle with the UMW community. Colleen works for the Federal Government for her “day job” and in her free time enjoys swimming, biking, kayaking, and hanging out with her two shih tzus.

Hannah is a UMW student from Lorton, VA who took the group fitness instructor prep course in Fall 2019 and joined the Campus Rec group fitness staff in Spring 2020. She teaches Dance Fitness and FlexAbility, is a Theater major, and fun fact: her dog has two different colored eyes!


Jentry is a UMW student certified to teach Cycle classes by Mad Dogg Athletics. She joined the UMW group fitness staff in Fall 2018.

Jesse is a UMW student from Stafford, VA studying psychology and elementary education. She teaches yoga for UMW Campus Recreation. Fun fact: Jesse owns a small business called JessMade. She sells macrame art and for every one wall hanging purchased, she donates another to local assisted living homes.

Jordan is a UMW student from Denver, Colorado who took the group fitness instructor prep course in Fall 2019 and joined the Campus Rec group fitness staff in Spring 2020. She is studying business administration atUMW and teaches Lower Body HIIT & Cycle for us! Fun fact: Jordan has been in 15 musicals.

Katherine is a UMW student from Alexandria, VA who took the group fitness instructor prep course in Fall 2019 and joined the Campus Rec group fitness staff in Spring 2020. She is studying sociology and in the elementary education program. She teaches Dance Fitness, can sing her ABC’s backwards, and grew up doing competitive Irish Dance!

Lauren
Lauren S.
first tried a Zumba class at Lord Fairfax Community College and fell in love with the high energy moves and Latin rhythms. Two years later, she became certified in Basic Zumba in Richmond, VA under April Smith, and then went on to be certified in Basic Zumba II, Zumba Sentao and Zumba Step. Lauren enjoys choreographing and teaching as a way to let loose and strives to make each class a fun and exhilarating workout experience for all those who attend. In her free time, Lauren plays the fiddle in a Celtic band, reads, and enjoys taking Pilates, yoga, step fitness and high intensity interval training (HIIT). She invites everyone to come out and join the Zumba party!

Leslie
Leslie
has been teaching group fitness since 2006 and is certified through AFAA.  She loves teaching core, strength, and cardio classes – all with a focus on better preparing her participants for day-to-day life. Leslie’s family moved to Fredericksburg in 2015, and she has really enjoyed getting to work with the UMW community.


Lily is a UMW student from Cleveland, Ohio who is an American Studies and Secondary Education major with a minor in social justice. Lily Yoga classes for us since she participated in the Group Fitness Instructor Prep Course in Spring 2019 and joined the Campus Rec group fitness staff in Fall 2019. Fun fact about Lily: she loves live music!


Madeline is a UMW student who teaches HIIT Strength classes! She participated in the Group Fitness Instructor Prep Course in Spring 2019 and joined the Campus Rec group fitness staff in Fall 2019.

Maggie is a UMW student from Chesapeake, VA who joined the Campus Rec group fitness staff in Spring 2020. She teaches Yoga and started doing it when she was 2 years old!


Payton is a UMW student from Ridgefield, CT who is studying Communications and Digital Studies and minoring in French. Payton teaches Cycle and FlexAbility classes and she loves doing hot yoga, flying trapeze, and practicing her aerial skills! She participated in the Group Fitness Instructor Prep Course in Spring 2019 and joined the Campus Rec group fitness staff in Fall 2019.


Naana is a UMW student from Woodbridge, VA who teaches Dance Fitness classes! She participated in the Group Fitness Instructor Prep Course in Spring 2019 and joined the Campus Rec group fitness staff in Fall 2019. Naana is a Biology major and she loves to dance!


Rebecca is a UMW student from Chantilly, VA who teaches Cycle classes! She participated in the Group Fitness Instructor Prep Course in Fall 2018 and joined the Campus Rec group fitness staff in Spring 2019. Fun fact: Rebecca is a English major in the elementary education program and has been a tutor at the UMW Writing Center since the second semester of her freshman year!


Sasha is a UMW student from Warrenton, VA who is certified to teach Cycle classes by the American Sports and Fitness Association. She joined the UMW group fitness staff in Fall 2018. Fun facts: she has over 30 plants and is a sociology major with a minor in business administration.

Tiffany
Tiffany K.
is a classically trained dancer with nearly 20 years of dance, choreography and instruction experience. Moving to Fredericksburg in 2012, she brought her passion for dance and fitness with her and opened Dance Trance Fredericksburg. Four years later, Tiffany has closed the doors to her studio, choosing to get back to what she loves most: teaching and inspiring people to “Find what you love to do and do it!” A versatile instructor, Tiffany invites you to join her in her group fitness classes: POUND, CIZE Live, Urban Groove, Urban Flow and Urban Ballet!


Tori is a UMW student from Ashburn, VA majoring in English and minoring in journalism. Tori teaches HIIT & Core for us and she participated in the Group Fitness Instructor Prep Course in Spring 2019, joining the Campus Rec facility and group fitness staff in Fall 2019. Not so fun fact about Tori: she’s broken her nose 3 times!
