It's all fun and games till someone loses an eye. Then it's fun and games without depth perception.
Sometimes we go to tournaments and are cool. Other times, we putter around campus and watch movies.

Fencing Club Activities, 2007-2008

Fencing Club Activities, 2005-2006
- September 5, 2005 – We participated in Club Carnival. Our table was covered in posters, full of fencers willing to explain how the club worked, and a few people fenced in the center of Ball Circle. 138 people signed up interested, of which about 63 new people showed up to our introductory practices.
- September 16, 2005 – As an introduction to the club, we invited all of our new members to join us in watching the Princess Bride at a movie night, as it is one of the superior fencing movies.
- September 23, 2005- The Fencing Club participated in Family Weekend by presenting a short skit “Fencing Through the Ages.” We went on right before the UMW pipe band and had a lovely time. Our skit was goofy and full of fencing related humor.
- October 1, 2005 – The club hosted a USFA Directors Clinic. We reserved a room in Combs for use of a projector screen and a few of the club members helped the clinic out by running errands and bringing food in for the participating directors.
- October 2, 2005 – As part of the USFA Directors Clinic the Fencing Club hosted USFA Practice Tournament, where the new directors tried out their new skill. This was held in the Great Hall.
- October 21, 2005- We participated in Homecoming Parade and though it was sort of rainy we fenced down campus walk, some of our members carrying posters. As always we were full of enthusiasm.
- October 23, 2005- The club participated in the Chaos Tournament at University of Maryland College Park. This tournament was for beginners in all three weapons.
- December 6, 2005- Since our treasurer was spending her spring semester in Wales we held elections for a new treasurer. Emma Smith was elected.
- December 9, 2005- The club participated in a foil tournament against Dark Horse, the local fencing club, titled the “Battle of Fredericksburg.” The tournament took place at the Presbyterian Church in downtown Fredericksburg.
- January 30, 2006 – The club journeyed to Sweet Briar College for a tournament. Female teams of all three weapons competed against Sweet Briar, Virginia Tech, JMU, and Stevens Tech.
- February 14, 2006 – Attempted to schedule a “St. Valentine’s Day Massacre” saber tournament with Dark Horse. Because of complications with Dark Horse, this tournament was postponed until the 16th.
- February 16, 2006 – Saber tournament against Dark Horse, once again in the Presbyterian Church in downtown Fredericksburg.
- February 18, 2006- Fencing Club members Laura Hatmaker, Laura Root, and Dan Garrett attend SAC, a saber tournament at Virginia Tech.
- March 3, 2006 – Three of our foil fencers journey to Dumfries in Northern Virginia to fence the Daniel Brown’s team. Daniel Brown is a former club president who now coaches a high school fencing team.
- March 25, 2006 – Fencing club members helped with the Mortar Board Walk-a-thon by giving water to the walkers.
- March 31, 2006 – Elections for new officers (2006-2007 school year).
- April 8, 2006 – The club participated in the Multi-cultural Fair in the children’s room. We introduced fencing to the children by allowing them to play with the weapons in a controlled environment.
- April 22, 2006 – We held the Fencing Club End of Year Picnic but since it rained it was relocated to Custis Basement. Seniors were presented with gifts of appreciation.
- April 23, 2006 – The club participated in the Walkathon for Copprome Orphanage.

- September 1, 2004 - Club Carnival - 118 students signed up to express interest
- September 7, 2004 - first practice with new fencers
- September 17, 2004 - skit and demonstration for Parent's Weekend
- September 24, 2004 - annual beginning-of-year cookout and Princess Bride movie night
- October 15, 2004 - participated in the Homecoming parade
- October 23, 2004 - trip to the Maryland Renaissance Faire with the UMW Renaissance Club
- October 29, 2004 - Halloween party, movie night
- November 6 and 8, 2004 - In-club tournament, all three weapons
- November 13, 2004 - trip to the local SPCA, cleaned out their shed and yard
- November 19, 2004 - scrimmage with Dark Horse Fencing Club and Roanoke College Fencing Club, all three weapons

- March 29, 2005 - elections for the next school year
- March 29 and April 1, 2005 - In-club tournament
- April 15, 2005 - End-of-year cookout, successful throwing of coals by newly elected Madame President Amanda
