The Fitness Center

The Fitness Center is the indoor flagship facility of the Department of Campus Recreation. The 19,000 square foot center opened February 2004 serves 500 to 600 guests daily.  The two level facility features a separate cardio training area and a strength training area. Additional features include a bank of six suspended televisions offering cable television via a Cardio Theater wireless entertainment system. The Fitness Center also houses the Wellness Resource Center that offers the university community small group meeting space, a Wii entertainment center, and a resource library for wellness information.  For more information you may contact the Fitness Center at 540-654-1REC (1732).

Goolrick Hall

Managed by the Department of Athletics and Physical Education, Goolrick Hall offers a main gymnasium, auxiliary gymnasium, racquetball court, dance studios, weight room, cardio room to the university community.  These spaces are available for recreational use when not being used for physical education classes, intercollegiate and sport club practices and competitions, exercise classes, intramural events, or other scheduled events.  For more information concerning all Department of Athletics and Physical Education recreation facilities please call 540-654-1039.

The William M. Anderson Center

The Anderson Center, named for President Emeritus William M. Anderson, Jr., is a multi-use convocation center adjacent to Goolrick Hall and seats more than 2,000 spectators for athletic events and more than 3,000 people for special events and concerts.  The Anderson Center, a 52,000-square-foot facility, officially opened during a dedication ceremony on August 25th.

“The Anderson Center will mean so many things for the students of the University of Mary Washington—today and through all future years,” said President Hurley. “In addition to its use as an athletic event venue, the Anderson Center will play a vital role as the site of many other significant events in the life of the university.”

Besides accommodating larger audiences for university events, the Anderson Center will provide an inclement weather location for the many outdoor programs planned throughout the academic year.

President Anderson dedicated 23 years to building a nationally prominent university, including an intercollegiate varsity program recognized for its scholarship as well as the athletic prowess of its students. The Anderson Center is the new home of the Eagle Varsity Volleyball and Basketball programs as well as a venue for other exciting programming.  For more information about the Anderson Center please call 540-654-1399

The University Tennis Center

The crown jewel of the Battleground Athletic Complex , the six-court, state-of-the-art University Tennis Center Tennis Center is located next to the award-winning 12-court outdoor tennis facility at the Battleground Athletic Complex. The University Tennis Center hosted the 2006 NCAA Division III National Men’s Championships, the 2007 NCAA Division III National Women’s Championships, and has received the 2006 USTA Mid-Atlantic Section “Facility of the Year” Award and the 2007 USTA Outstanding Facility Award.
