UMW maintains a proud tradition of honor on both campuses. Each campus maintains a student-run Honor Council with elected student officers and representatives.
(The following is excerpted from a 1966 brochure titled “The Honor System at Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia,” by Edward Alvey, Jr. [deceased], Dean of the College.)
“The true test of greatness in a college is the impress that it makes upon the minds and character of those who come under its influence. It is in this respect, in particular, that the Honor System is a priceless heritage. It is a positive assertion of belief in man’s response to the highest of values– personal integrity.”
