Introduction to Service

There are many ways to get started engaging in your new community:

COAR (Community Outreach and Resources)

15 different options to volunteer with other UMW students at local non-profits. Transportation is provided. Check out their list of programs and on campus events throughout the year. Check out their interest meeting on August 27th @ 7 pm!

Service/Philanthropy Clubs

CHLS works closely with clubs whose missions are service and philanthropy related. The clubs include Relay for Life, Circle K, Canine Companions for Independence, Best Buddies, Alpha Mu Sigma, Red Cross Club, Habitat for Humanity, Students Helping Honduras, UNICEF, and Campus Scouts.

Alternative Breaks

If you like making a difference, road trips, making new friends, and using power tools, Alternative Spring Break might be for you!

Volunteer Locally

This is the Rappahannock United Way’s Volunteer Center. A great resource in locating additional opportunities!

OR Start some new!

If you have something specific in mind, our staff is all ears and is ready to assist you in starting a new club or organizing a new COAR program.

Service will only be a UMW tradition as long as the newest members of the community keep it that way!
