Pumpkin Palooza

On Sunday, October 27th, UMW COAR invited families from the community on campus for crafts, games, trick-or-treating, and fun! Families brought their kids to the Great Hall, where 105 student volunteers guided them in making Halloween crafts, face-painting, and fun games. Families munched on snacks and listened to Halloween music as they awaited their opportunity to go trick-or-treating on campus. Student tour-guides led kids from dorm to dorm where they accumulated their much-awaited-for stash of candy. 185 families attended the event with a total of 387 kids! Into the Streets

On Saturday October 5th, 135 students went into the community to make a difference. Students signed up for one of six service activities: building picnic tables with Habitat for Humanity, painting rain barrels with Friends of the Rappahannock,  putting together meals for Stop Hunger Now, making paracord bracelets, cleaning up the community cemetery, or making meals at the Micah Respite House. Volunteers built 6 picnic tables, 20 rain barrels, packed 10,000 meals, made 52 paracord bracelets, made one cemetery beautiful, and made one hot meal for residents at the respite house.
